In an era of ranch and high fenced hunts, we offer a premiere, FAIR
CHASE wilderness experience.
Idaho is the ONLY state with exclusive commercial outfitter areas on
Federal Lands. This means no competition from other guides. Our area
is located in the River of No Return Wilderness, which consists of well
over two million acres of roadless, unfenced wild game country.
Hettinger outfitting operates within the Chamberlain Basin portion of this
wilderness. The camps are approximately 40 miles from the nearest
primitive road and 90 miles from the nearest highway.
Due to the remoteness of the area, clients and all supplies are flown
into the wilderness. After arriving at the Chamberlain airstrip, all of our
hunts are the traditional pack-in type with horses to ride and mules to
carry supplies and equipment. Deluxe tent camps at any of four sites
will be awaiting our clients arrival. Pressure by other hunters remains
very light. Elevations will range from 5000 to 7600 feet. Chamberlain
Basin terrain is gentle by Rocky Mountain standards. It is similar to
Wyoming's great horse and elk country.
We have been licensed outfitters since 1975, and as your outfitter,
Dave is in camp on all hunts. Years of experience has taught us to
keep hunter numbers low to produce highly personalized hunts and a
high degree of success. We take pride in hiring some of the finest
professional guides and support staff available. The weather and your
ability to walk in mountainous terrain will be the main factors
determining your success on any hunt we offer. After booking a hunting
trip, we will supply you with our specific equipment request.
Our hunting trips are full-service, which includes comfortable tent
camps, wholesome meals, guides, cooks, airport pick-up, trophy and
meat care, transportation of meat to a processor, and, if you wish,
trophies taken to our taxidermist.
