TRADITIONAL PACK-IN COMBINATION RIFLE HUNTS
In our management zone,
outfitters can guarantee clients
elk and deer tags
December through June.
Elk, Deer, and Black Bear can be hunted in combination from
mid-September through mid-November.  These are traditional pack-in type
with horses and mules and tent camp accommodations.  The length of the
horseback ride to base-camp can vary from 3 to 5 hours.  Spike camps
might also be used during a hunt.  Horse and foot travel are the only
means of transportation. Horses are used during the hunt, but most of the
actual hunting is done on foot. Come prepared to get up early and hunt all
day.

We offer a rifle, bugle season elk hunt which is a very popular time to hunt.
The elk rut normally starts in early to mid-September and runs through
mid-October.  At this time of the season, deer are a possibility, but they are
very scattered.  Bear can be successfully baited.

Late October and November is the best time to combine trophy deer with
trophy elk.  Chamberlain Basin has both whitetail and mule deer with good
trophy quality during the late season rut.  With the advantage of snow,
more game is seen on later hunts then earlier.

Dave Hettinger Outfitting has a very good wilderness guide area.  Good
game numbers, virtually no other hunting pressure, and very huntable
terrain.  Our intermediate priced hunts are geared to individuals who want
to experience a fair chase hunt under wild conditions plus have a great
opportunity to harvest representative species.  Considering the low volume
of hunters we handle annually (24-28) and the high overhead costs for
operating in the most remote part of Idaho, our hunting trips are an
exceptional value for the dollars spent.

Texas brothers Rick (pictured above), Clayton (pictured below)
and Kevin Kennedy have hunted with us four times,
taking 6 bulls, 4 bucks and 2 bears.
IMPORTANT
*If you plan on hunting with a semiautomatic rifle, please do not contact us about a
hunting trip.

*Due to our concern for the safety of clients and humane treatment of our horses, we
will not take anyone weighing over 240 lbs. It is our opinion that a total load
exceeding 300 lbs is too heavy for even a large horse in mountainous terrain.
